Corporate
Agribusiness Control of Farm Policy
Why is it that giant agribusiness
posts record profits while farmers,
food safety and the health of the land decline. The reason?
They control the markets and our farm policy.
How bad has this gotten? Well,
four huge companies now control over
75% of beef production and fewer than ten agrochemical companies
control 91% of the $31 Billion global pesticide market!
Moreover, these giant
corporations prop up deceptive "front groups" who
pose to politicians as farmers while advancing policy that has been dismantling family farm
agriculture. As long as this is unchallenged
farming will be a field day for giant agribusiness.
If you are tired of growth
hormones, "frankenfoods," irradiated factory animals, pesticides,
dead wildlife, undrinkable water and displaced farmers - learn
more about this "great deception" and get involved!

Harvest - An Expose of the Farm Bureau
By Samuel Berger - 1971
Sandy Berger, who
is now Chief of the National Security Council for the Clinton
Administration, was working in 1967 as a young political aide for
Representative Joeseph Resnick (D-NY). Resnick headed up a series of
hearings into rural poverty that snowballed into an investigation of the
Farm Bureau. During congressional testimony regarding the Farm Bureau,
Resnick charged the American Farm Bureau Federation has been "using
the American farmer in order to build one of the largest insurance and
financial empires in the United States, and to bring great profits to a
select handful of men."

Reapers
A.V. Krebbs
A.V. Krebbs is an unsung
hero in the modern progressive farm movement. As a tireless advocate of
the family farm, his understanding of farm policy and corporate
agribusiness is unmatched in America today. In his book "The
Corporate Reapers," Krebbs devotes a chapter to the Farm Bureau.
The Chapter called "The Enemy Within" takes a serious look at
the Farm Bureau’s history, agribusiness connections and their use of
their organizational networks to advance the propaganda of the extreme
right wing. Jim Hightower has said of this book, "It's a big book
about justice, and it speaks the truth. Al Krebs has poured his life's
work into this volume, and it's a work well worth the telling."
